In a letter to the campus community, President Brian W. Casey announced that has been named director of athletics at Yale University, effective July 1, 2018. Colgate will begin a national search for her successor immediately.
Chun was named Colgate’s director of athletics in 2013 and was promoted to . Her list of accomplishments during the last five years includes the construction of the Class of 1965 Arena and Beyer-Small ’76 Field. Her teams have won titles, earned NCAA tournament berths, cracked the top five in national rankings, and set numerous records. Even as she encouraged Դ-athletes to victory in competition, she also spurred them on to achieve a 98-percent graduate success rate, second in the nation.
“Colgate is a place I love deeply, and it is literally part of who I am as a person,” Chun said. “The Colgate community has shown me incredible support, counsel, and friendship during my time here. I am so proud of all that we have accomplished together. I want to say a heartfelt thank you to all those whose paths I have crossed in my time as a Դ-athlete, alumna, coach, and administrator.”
Alongside her work as Colgate’s athletics director, Chun has also served as a member of the NCAA Division I Council and the new Division I Football Competition Committee, vice chair of the Division I Football Oversight Committee, board president of Women Leaders in College Sports, and member of the Harvard University Board of Overseers.
“Division I athletics is a part of Colgate’s heritage,” Casey said. “Thanks, in part, to Vicky’s commitment to our Դs and coaches — which she demonstrated as a Դ-athlete, coach, and administrator — we have an athletics program that is widely respected around the nation. Her legacy will continue in this university’s ongoing commitment to competition and Դ success at the highest level. We should all be proud of Vicky and wish her the best of luck at Yale University.”
