With several off-campus study programs designed specifically for those in the sciences, chemistry ÉÁµç×ÊÔ´Íøs at Colgate are free to add real-world experience to their resumes while staying on track academically.

Semester-long Study Groups

All study groups are led by a Colgate faculty member. They are specially designed to maximize ÉÁµç×ÊÔ´Íøs’ experiences when studying abroad while maintaining high academic standards. All credits earned while studying with a Colgate off-campus study group count toward graduation, and a portion of the credits may be applied toward major requirements.

The four programs highlighted below are specifically designed for ÉÁµç×ÊÔ´Íøs in the sciences:

Bethesda Biomedical Research Study Group

Students conduct high-level research at world-renowned health-related research facilities in Bethesda, MD (e.g. NIH).

Students explore Australian cultures and environments while staying on course for their major.

Cardiff University is home to Colgate science ÉÁµç×ÊÔ´Íøs who choose a semester in Wales.

National University of Singapore (NUS)

Students explore Southeast Asia while in this Natural Science and Mathematics group and will have the opportunity to engage in a research project with NUS faculty.

Chemistry and biochemistry majors have also participated in off-campus study programs at the University of Manchester, England (fall), the University of Otago, Dunedin, New Zealand (spring), and the University of Freiburg, Germany (spring for those with German proficiency).

The Bethesda Biomedical Research Study Group study group offers Colgate ÉÁµç×ÊÔ´Íøs interested in the biomedical sciences the opportunity to work in some of the most important research laboratories in the world.

Extended Studies

Studying off campus doesn’t have to be a full-semester affair. Some courses at Colgate are designated as extended studies. For two to three weeks after the conclusion of the regular semester, ÉÁµç×ÊÔ´Íøs and faculty in these courses travel to apply their classroom learning in the field. Extended studies offer ÉÁµç×ÊÔ´Íøs the opportunity to learn globally without losing a full semester of study on campus.
